(6) So is not being in Native resolution a bad thing?
Using native resolution would bypass the television's internal scaler - you get a 1:1
mapping between the pixels sent out from the computer and what is shown on the screen.
Theoretically this would yield a better picture since the TV scaler is either going to have
to interpolate (expand) or reduce the picture based on the PC resolution to match its
native pixel size. That being said, I'm quite happy with the picture based on 1280x720
and 1184x666 resolutions. The Grand Wega does a good job of scaling quality sources,
so I don't think that there would be much perceivable difference between 1280x720 and
1366x768 (if you could achieve that native resolution).
(7) I did try all both settings and still get black screen though. If anyone else has
some other settings, I could use them. I have a GWII, ATI 9700 Pro, DVI, and
PowerStrip?
Alright, according to burble on the other thread, the 9700 can't do better than 480 lines of
vertical resolution via DVI to the GWII. Yuck. That is similar to my experience trying to
use a GeForce4, it wouldn't do better than 540 lines of vertical resolution. You might try
seeing if the 9700 will do 1920x540, that was the best resolution the GeForce4 would do
for me.
It almost seems like the newer the card, the more difficult it is to get DVI working. I
suppose if you want to go with a high-end Radeon the Audio Authority route is the way
to go.
(8) how much overscan do you get?
I think there are several older versions of the 7500. The ATI 7500 page shows the model
that I bought. Just make sure it says dvi on the box.
At 1280x720 there is about 7% overscan on both horizontal and vertical. At 1184x666
there is basically no overscan.
(8) Has anyone connected through DVI with an ATI 9700 Series Card?
Yes.
I got 1184x666 resolution and I have my DVI-I connected directly to my 50" GWII. This
is using windows XP and the ATI all- in- wonder 9700 Pro.
Here is what you have to do:
1. Install a new monitor driver.
a. To do this go to the Control Panel. Double click on system. Click on the "Hardware"
tab. Then click the "Device Manager" button.
b. Go down to "monitors" and click the + sign next to it. You should see "plug and play"
monitor (or something like that).
c. Right click on the name and choose "Update Driver..."
d. The "Hardware Update Wizard" will pop up.
e. Choose "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)"
