Chapter 2

Overview

This chapter covers the basic hardware installation for the StorTrends 2104 NAS server.
When working inside the chassis, unplug both power cables.
When installing this unit, the power outlet that supplies power to the power supply must be easily
accessible. Access to this outlet must not be blocked or obstructed in any way.
Note:
The StorTrends 2104 NAS server is designed for lock and key rack enclosure
installations only. The StorTrends 2104 NAS server is designed for use in a restricted
access area only. This product requires a system engineer with experience with this type
of equipment to perform the installation.

Use the following steps to install the StorTrends 2104 NAS server.

Before You Start

Avoid Electro-Static Discharge (ESD)

Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) can damage the internal components of the StorTrends
2104 NAS server. Avoid contact with any component or connector on any adapter
card, printed circuit board, or memory module.
Perform all unpacking and installation procedures on a ground-connected anti-static mat.
Wear an anti-static wristband grounded at the same point as the anti-static mat. You can
also use a sheet of conductive aluminum foil grounded through a one-megaohm resistor
instead of the anti-static mat. Similarly, a strip of conductive aluminum foil wrapped
around the wrist and grounded through a one megaohm resistor serves the same purpose
as a wristband.
