For extra pow er w hen passing another
vehicle or clim bing steep grades, depress
the accelerator fully. T he transaxle w ill
shift to a low er gear, depending on vehicle
speed.
C lim b in g steep g ra d e s fro m a sto p
To clim b a steep grade from a stopped
position:
1. D epress the brake pedal.
2. Shift to D or 1, depending on the load
w eight and grade steepness.
3. R elease all brakes w hile gradually
accelerating.

W hen descending a steep grade, shift to 2
or 1, depending on load w eight and grade
steepness. D escend slowly, using the
brakes only occasionally to prevent them
from overheating.

Power Steering

Pow er steering is only operable w hen the
engine is running. If the engine is o ff or if
the pow er steering system is inoperable,
you can still steer, but it requires m ore
physical effort.
If the steering feels rigid during norm al
driving, consult an A uthorized M azda
Dealer.

CAUTION
N ever hold the steering w heel to the
extrem e left or right for m ore than five
seconds w ith the engine running.
This could dam age the pow er steering
system .
