Several Operator Panels on Several NCUs, Distributed Systems (B3)
Brief description
2.1.4.2

Types of distributed machines

Machine characteristics
Rotary indexing machines/multi-spindle machines exhibit the following characteristics:
● Global, cross-station units (not assignable to one station):
● Station-related (position-related), fixed-location units:
Applications
Rotary indexing machines (RVM) and multi-spindle machines (MS) are used as highly
productive machines in medium and large batch production.
Their main advantage is that many machining steps can be performed on the workpiece in
one clamp.
NCU assignments
The numerous axes on these machines are assigned to different NCUs based on the
RVM/MS configuration (e.g. one NCU for each machining unit or group of machining units).
The global units are assigned to a separate NCU or distributed accordingly.
98
– Drum/rotary switching axis and
– units which change from station (position) to station (position):
In the case of rotary indexing machines: → the rotary axis for workpiece clamping with
multi-face machining
In the case of multi-spindle machines:
→ spindle, quill
– Slides, milling/drilling units used on the part that is changed from station to station for
a machining task.
