2.1.4
NCU link
2.1.4.1
General information
Use
The NCU link, the link between several NCU units of an installation, is used in distributed
system configurations.
When there is a high demand for axes and channels, e.g. in case of revolving machines and
multi-spindle machines, the computing capacity, configuration options and memory areas
can reach their practical limits when only one NCU is used. Several NCUs interconnected
with an NCU link module provide a scalable solution which fully meets the requirements of
machine tools of this type. The NCU-Link module offers fast NCU-NCU communication
based on a synchronized 12 Mbaud PROFIBUS interface.
Note
NCU-Link is available in case of SINUMERIK 840D with link module and HMI Advanced.
If Safety Integrated (SI) is used in machines with NCU Link, then it is possible, when:
• the configuration of the system-integrated SI functions does not include the link,
• in the configuration of the safety-oriented inputs/outputs (SGE/SGA) no safety-oriented
However, if axial system-integrated SI functions of link or container-link axes are still used,
then this is done under the responsibility of the machine manufacturer. Hence there are
boundary conditions for the SI functions Stop D/E, SG, SE, SN, as well as for
commissioning, diagnosis and for the SI acceptance test.
Support can be provided by the Center of Competence Service (CoCS) - SINUMERIK

WARNING
containerlink and/or lead-link axes.
signal exchange is necessary between the controls involved, or the signal exchange
between the controls involved takes place exclusively via the safety-oriented
inputs/outputs (SGE/SGA) in accordance with the functional description of Safety
Integrated (e.g. consideration of the 3-terminal concept).
