Test Procedures

WARNING
The bake and broil dual gas valves supply gas to the
bake and broil burners. The valves contain bimetal
arms attached to the valve seats. These arms are
wrapped with a small electric heater coil. When a cur-
rent range of approximately 3.2 - 3.6 amps flows
through the bake or broil circuit, the bimetal arm is
heated. Heating causes the arm to bend, allowing gas
to flow and be ignited by the burner ignitor.
The broil gas valve is located on the right side of the
control panel flueway and the bake gas valve is lo-
cated on the left side of the control panel flueway.
The bimetal arms can be checked for continuity using
the following procedure.
1. Disconnect power to oven. Remove gas valve wir-
ing.
2. Access valves by removing control panel glass
and control panel mounting bracket.
3. Set ohmmeter to low ohms range. Attach meter
leads to the two gas valve terminals facing rear of
oven.
4. Meter should indicate low ohms or continuity.
5. Repeat on two gas valve terminals facing front of
oven.
6. If meter indicates infinite ohms or an open heater
coil, the complete gas valve must be replaced.
Important Note: Do not apply 120VAC to valve.
Applying 120VAC to valve will render valve inop-
erative.

Indicator Lights

Each oven thermostat has two indicator lights. The
oven indicator light should be on during bake, broil and
clean operations. This light cycles on and off with the
thermostat cycling contacts 1-2. The clean indicator
will light during self-clean operation when oven tem-
peratures reach approximately 650 to 700 degrees.
The light remains on until the oven temperature cools
to the point where the door may be opened.
Use the following procedure to test the indicator light
voltage.
1. Disconnect power from oven.
2. Remove control panel glass.
3. Remove indicator light from control panel mount-
ing bracket. Pull light through access hole above
thermostat.
4. Set voltmeter to 120 VAC. Attach voltmeter leads
to indicator terminals.
5. Turn oven to bake or broil.
6. If voltage is present at the indicator terminals and
the indicator does not light, replace indicator.

Oven Light Switch

The oven light switches are mounted in the control
panel. The switches control upper and lower oven
lights. Use the following procedure to check continuity.
1.
Disconnect power from oven.
2. Access switch by removing control panel glass and
removing clock from mounting bracket.
3. Unscrew switch retaining nut. Remove switch wir-
ing. Remove switch through clock opening in the
control panel mounting bracket.
4. Set ohmmeter to the low ohm range. Attach meter
leads to switch terminals.
5. Meter should indicate continuity or low ohms when
switch contacts are closed. Meter should indicate
no continuity or infinite ohms when contacts are
open. Replace switch if it fails test.
