9.4 Receiving a fax automatically :
Auto answer ON
9.4.1 Activating FAX ONLY mode
Press MvN repeatedly to display "FAX ONLY MODE".
R The display will show the ring count in FAX ONLY
mode. If you wish to change it, press MCN or MDN
repeatedly to display the desired setting, and press
MOKN.
R The MvN light turns ON.
How faxes are received
When receiving calls, the unit will automatically answer
all calls and only receive fax documents.
Note:
R The number of rings before a call is answered in FAX
ONLY mode can be changed (feature #210 on
page 70).
R You can set duplex print for fax reception (feature
#407 on page 75).
R Received faxes may be stored in memory depending
on the paper size settings. See feature #380 on
page 71 and feature #382 on page 72 for details.
R A4 or letter size recording paper is recommended.

Important:
R Use this mode with an extension telephone.
9.5.1 Activating TEL mode

Make sure feature #404 is set to "TEL" beforehand
(page 75).

Press MvN repeatedly to display "TEL MODE".
R The MvN light turns OFF.
Note:
R If you do not answer the call within 10 rings, the unit
will temporarily switch to fax reception. The other
party can then send a fax.
– When "U.K.", is selected in feature #114 on
page 67, this feature is not activated.
– When "GERMANY" is selected in feature #114 on
page 67, you can set this feature to OFF
(feature #319 on page 75).
R You can set duplex print for fax reception (feature
#407 on page 75).
R Received faxes may be stored in memory depending
on the paper size settings. See feature #380 on
page 71 and feature #382 on page 72 for details.
R A4 or letter size recording paper is recommended.
How to receive faxes with an extension telephone
If you have another telephone connected to the [EXT]
socket or the same line (extension telephone), you can
use the extension telephone to receive faxes.
1. When the extension telephone rings, lift the handset
of the extension telephone.
2. When:
– document reception is required,
– a fax calling tone (slow beep) is heard, or
– no sound is heard,
press MGN MBN M9N (default fax activation code)
firmly.
3. Replace the handset.
Note:
R To stop receiving, see page 98.
R To receive fax documents using the extension
telephone, make sure remote fax activation is turned
ON (feature #434 on page 77) beforehand. The
default setting is ON.
