Copy Services functions across a 2105 and 2107/242x

Copy Services functions that are performed using either the DS Storage Manager
or DS CLI are designed to interact with both the 2107/242x and the IBM
TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Servers (ESS) Models 750 and 800.
Most Copy Services functions that are available on the ESS 2105 are also available
in the 2107/242x and in open systems and System z environments.
On the 2107/242x, a storage unit partitioning consists of two logical partitions
(LPARs), one LPAR on each processor complex and a set of allocated resources
such as processors, memory, I/O adapters, and storage devices in one physical
machine. Each LPAR appears to the software running within it as an independent
hardware environment. For this reason, the mirroring solutions, which are
compatible between the 2105 and the 2170 series, allow you to set up a disaster
recovery solution with the 2107/242x at your local (or primary) site and with the
2105 at your secondary (or recovery) site, where the same performance is not
required.
Consider the following guidelines:
v To perform Copy Services functions between machine types 2105 and 2107/242x,
you must configure a Copy Services domain on the DS Storage Manager or DS
CLI.
v To connect to the 2105 Copy Services domain on the ESS, all interfaces that you
use require an authenticated login procedure to access Copy Services functions
across the storage complex. The authentication is performed by using a user
name and password that was created with the ESS Specialist. Therefore, the
existing user name and password that was created with the ESS Specialist for
the 2105 Copy Services domain for which you will be working must match the
user name and password on the management console that is connected to the
2107/242x. Otherwise, you must add them using either the DS Storage Manager
or DS CLI as part of the procedure for adding a 2105 Copy Services domain to
the storage complex.
v To manage Copy Services across the 2105 and 2107/242x, you must install
licensed internal code version 2.4.2 or later on the ESS Model 800.
v The 2107/242x does not support remote mirror and copy (formerly PPRC)
operations with an ESCON link. Therefore, if you want to configure a remote
mirror and copy relationship between the 2107/242x and 2105, you must use a
FCP link.

Copy Services functions with i5/OS

You can use Copy Services functions with IBM i5/OS to perform point-in-time
copies of your data using the FlashCopy function and mirroring your data for
disaster recovery using remote mirror and copy functions.
General considerations with i5/OS (prerequisites for Copy
Services functions)
Many initial configuration tasks to use i5/OS with the DS8000 are the same across
the various operating systems. However, unlike other operating systems, there are
some storage requirements that are unique to i5/OS. For example, LUNs on i5/OS
are defined as fixed block storage and only specific LUN sizes are supported, such
as 8.5 GB, 17.5 GB, and 35.1 GB. i5/OS LUNs make available a 520-byte block to
the host. i5/OS refers to volumes as LUNs.
