Figure 8. DS8300 default LPAR resource allocation
Each storage image has access to the following components:
v 50 percent of the processors is the default. With variable LPAR implementation
on DS8300 Model 9B2, the split can be 25/75 percent or 75/25 percent.
v 50 percent of the processor memory is the default. With variable LPAR
implementation on DS8300 Model 9B2, the split can be 25/75 percent or 75/25
percent.
v Up to 16 host adapters (4 I/O drawers with up to 4 host adapters)
v Up to 320 disk drives (up to 96 TB of capacity)
The DS8300 Model 9B2 can be reconfigured into variable logical partitions (LPARs)
that allows for splitting hardware resources where one image has more processor
power and cache memory than the other. Variable LPAR implementation allows for
increased flexibility, storage image independence, and efficient work load
balancing.
The factory default configuration is a 50/50 percent split. Variable LPAR
implementations can be re-configured into a 75/25 percent or 25/75 percent split.
The reconfigured split applies to the following hardware resources:
v Processors
v NVS+Cache memory
– Available memory of NVS and cache is split between images
– Processor memory (equal to installed processor memory features)
– Image NVS memory (fixed size based on processor memory and the split)
– Image cache memory (minimum cache memory is 64 GB)
The following hardware resources remain at a 50/50 percent split after the image is
re-configured to a 75/25 percent or 25/75 percent split:
v Host adapter slots.
