Chapter 2. Installing the simulated DS8000 Storage Manager
interface
The simulated DS8000 Storage Manager is installed using a graphical or
unattended (silent) mode for the Windows and Linux operating systems. It can be
accessed using a Web browser from any location that has network access. This
installation is optional.
You can install the simulated DS8000 Storage Manager on a PC that has the
following minimum footprint requirements. Also, ensure you have installed a
supported browser.
Supported browsers:
v Internet Explorer 6.x and 7.x
v Mozilla Firefox 1.5 and 2.0

v Windows 2000 Professional, Server, Advanced Server
v Windows 2003 Server, Advanced Server
v Windows XP Professional
v Red Hat Linux AS 3.0 and 4.0

1. To prevent the content of your browser window from being replaced by
other windows being launched, check your internet options to ensure
that the option to reuse windows for shortcuts is disabled.
2. Animations must be turned on in your browser if you want to observe
the installation progress bars that are associated with the DS Storage
Manager installation. Animations are supported by default in Mozilla
Firefox. Use the following instructions for Internet Explorer:
a. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
b. Select the Advanced tab and scroll down to the Multimedia section.
c. Check Play animation in web pages.
1. The simulated DS8000 Storage Manager is not supported on any
Windows 64-bit operating system.
2. If this installation is being done on top of an existing installation, the
installer will automatically remove WebSphere Application Server 5 and
install WebSphere Application Server 6. The WebSphere Application
Server kit contains pre-upgrade and post-upgrade tools that you can
use for problem determination if necessary. Use the commands
WASPostUpgrade or WASPreUpgrade to identify any errors that might
