The z13s CPC drawer system design provides the capability to increase the capacity of
the system. You can add capacity by activating more CPs, IFLs, ICFs, or zIIPs on an
existing CPC drawer. The second CPC drawer can be used to provide more memory, or
one or more adapters to support a greater number of I/O features.
In z13s servers, the addition of a CPC drawer or memory is disruptive

1.3.2 Model upgrade paths

A z13s Model N10 can be upgraded to a z13s Model N20 hardware model. The upgrades to
N20 are disruptive (that is, the system is not available during the upgrade). Any zBC12 or
z114 model can be upgraded to a z13s N10 or N20 model, which is also disruptive. For more
information see also 2.7.1, "Upgrades" on page 71.
Consideration: Note that the z13s servers are air cooled only.
z114 upgrade to z13s server
When a z114 is upgraded to a z13s server, the z114 Driver level must be at least 93. If a zBX
is involved, the Driver 93 must be at bundle 27 or later. Family to family (z114 or zBC12)
upgrades are frame rolls, but all z13s upgrade paths are disruptive.
zBC12 upgrade to z13s server
When a BC12 is upgraded to a z13s server, the zBC12 must be at least at Driver level 15. If a
zBX is involved, Driver 15 must be at Bundle 22 or later.
The following processes are not supported:
Reverting to an earlier level within the z13 or z13s models
Upgrades from IBM System z10® or earlier systems
Attachment of a zBX Model 002 or model 003 to a z13s server
zBX upgrade
The zBX Model 004 is available as an upgrade from an existing zBX Model 002 or Model 003.
The upgrade decouples the zBX from its controlling CPC. With the addition of redundant SEs,
it becomes a stand-alone node within an ensemble.

1.3.3 Frame

The z13s server has one frame that contains the following CPC components:
Up to two CPC drawers, up to two PCIe I/O drawers, and up to one I/O drawer that hold
I/O features and special purpose features
Power supplies
An optional internal battery feature (IBF)
Air cooling
Two System Control Hubs (SCHs) to interconnect the CPC components through Ethernet.
Two new 1U, rack-mounted SEs, each with one keyboard, pointing device, and display
mounted on a tray.
