10.1.7 New environmental class for IBM z13s servers: ASHREA Class A3

heating, ventilation, and air conditioning industry.
The IBM z13s server is the first z Systems server to meet the ASHRAE Class A3
specifications. Environmental specifications are presented in two categories:
Recommended
z13s servers.
IBM strongly suggests you strive for more than the minimum requirements. The powerful
computing that z13s servers provide generates a great deal of heat. That heat must be
removed from the equipment to keep it operating at peak efficiency. Cooling the servers can
result in condensation on critical internal parts, leading to equipment failure, unless the
computer room environment is adequately maintained to prevent it. That is where operating
your data center with the goal of reaching recommended specifications instead of just the
required numbers will pay off for you.
Figure 10-3 depicts the environmental limits for previous and current generation of z Systems
servers.
