Introducing IBM z13s servers
Chapter 1.
Digital business has been driving the transformation of IT to be more efficient, secure,
adaptive, and intelligent. Today's technology foundation must be capable of increasing the
value of data, drawing on the wealth of applications on the z Systems platform, and delivering
new opportunities made possible by the API economy. z Systems is designed to harvest
information from huge volumes of data to unlock real-time insights, and enable smarter
decision making to deliver the greatest business advantage. The hybrid cloud infrastructure
requires a secured and resilient platform that is capable of in-transaction analytics, and
capable of providing customers with the agility and insight they need to succeed in today's
marketplace.
The IT infrastructure must always be on to serve customers in a 24 x 7 global business, have
flawless data integrity, and be capable of thwarting cyber security threats. It needs to be
resilient to support the introduction of new workloads and handle spikes in processing while
meeting the most demanding service levels. It must support both traditional delivery models
and new "as a service" cloud delivery models. It also must support the needs of traditional
and mobile knowledge workers.
This chapter introduces the basic concepts of IBM z13s servers.
