Steering Cylinders

How to Remove a
Steering Cylinder
Note: When removing a hose assembly or fitting,
the O-ring on the fitting and/or hose end must be
replaced and then torqued to specification during
installation. Refer to Specifications, Hydraulic
Hose and Fitting Torque Specifications.
1 Locate the hose bracket mounted to the steer
cylinder.
2 Remove the hose bracket cover retaining
fasteners. Remove the hose bracket cover.
3 Remove the hose bracket retaining fasteners
from the steering cylinder.
4 Tag, disconnect and plug the hydraulic hoses
from the steering cylinder. Cap the fittings on
the cylinder.
Bodily injury hazard. Spraying
hydraulic oil can penetrate and
burn skin. Loosen hydraulic
connections very slowly to allow
the oil pressure to dissipate
gradually. Do not allow oil to squirt
or spray.
5 Remove the pin retaining fasteners from the
steer cylinder pivot pins.
6 Support the steer cylinder with a suitable lifting
device.

7 Place a rod through each steer cylinder pivot
pin and twist to remove the pins.
8 Remove the steering cylinder from the machine.

Crushing hazard. The steer
cylinder may become unbalanced
and fall if it is not properly
supported by the lifting device.
