Problems with the S140

8.1.4 Measures to take in the case of processing unit failure

!
A spare CPU is available for the S140 Business Server except for the model S140-40C. If
a CPU fails, this spare CPU is automatically replaced by the hot-spare CPU by the
operating system for BS2000/OSD V4.0 and higher.
If you work with an older BS2000/OSD version or with the model S140-10B or S140-10C,
the service department must replace the defective CPU by means of manual reconfigu-
ration.
8.1.5 Measures to take in the case of defective IOP, MCU, SVP, SCI, SPC, PCI
system components
If the IOP (Input Output Processor), MCU (Memory Control Unit), SVP (Service Processor),
SCI (System Control Interface), SPC (System Power Controller) oder PCI (Power Control
Interface) system components fails, you may not be able to continue working with the S140.
If the failure of one of these components causes a complete system failure, you can carry
out the following actions after consultation with the service department:
execute an IMPL (AU4-FRAME)
Ê
or
Ê
switch off the S140 (AU4-FRAME) and then restart it (control panel, SKP menu).
If the shutdown and subsequent IMPL occur without errors, the BS2000/VM2000 can be
restarted with the IPL.
