5.6 Switching the S140 on and off from a remote system

Switching on and off can be carried out from a remote system using a modem/DCU. In
addition, automatic switching on/off of the S140 must be configured as part of the starting
and shutting down procedure for the SKP (see page 29). The SKP switches during startup
the S140 on. After the IMPL, the BS2000 system is started using the POWER ON IPL
function of the SVP.
Information on operating the DCU can be found in the data sheet "8323 Data Communi-
cation Unit" [5].

5.7 Switching global storage on and off

The service processor in global storage is linked via the SPC (System Power Controller)
interface to the service processor in the S140. Global storages are automatically switched
on or off with the S140, regardless of whether this is performed manually, automatically or
using the ATOP.
Backup batteries for global storage prevent data being lost in the event of a power failure. If
backup batteries have been installed, they are likewise automatically attached to or
detached from the global storages.
