Concept of system operation
The following hardware and software components are important for the operation of S140:
Service processor (SVP) in the S140 CPU.

This is responsible for the following tasks in the S140 CPU:
The service/console processor (3970-SKP) with the SINIX operating system.

Operation of the S140 system is handled via a local PC, the 3970-SKP service/console
processor. S140 and 3970-SKP communicate with one another in three ways:
The following components can be operated via the local 3970-SKP screen and remote
secondary consoles:
Automatic Operator (ATOP).

The ATOP is a device which is connected to the 3970-SKP via a serial line. It makes the
following functions possible:
It is possible to connect a radio-controlled clock or Global Time Server (GTS).

On/off facility makes it possible to switch the S140 on and off from the 3970-SKP.

The customer can program the ATOP to specify which operating functions should
be executed for which conditions.
Examples:
automatic shutdown of the system in the case of fan failure.
automatic command entry in reaction to certain BS2000 console messages.
