3 Overview

This chapter provides information on the configuration levels and the configuration of the
S140 Business Server series and the concept of system operation.

The S140 Business Server consists of a cabinet plus an additional cabinet for channel
expansions.
Two optional global storages can be connected; these are situated in a cabinet one and a
half times as wide as a normal cabinet.
The optional battery unit for each global storage comprises one cabinet. It ensures that no
data is lost in the global storage in the event of a power failure.

3.1 Configuration levels of the S140 Business Server

The S140 Business Server series consists of seven models. Upgrading of the individual
models can easily be carried out on site, so that system downtime is not extended due to
hardware installation.
The S140 models can have multiple processing units and channel groups. Thus a reconfi-
guration is possible for these models if there is a partial failure.
