Checking the Brake Fluid

Service Interval: Before each use or daily—Check the
brake fluid level.
Every 1,000 hours/Every 2 years
(whichever comes first)—Change
the brake fluid.
The brake fluid reservoir is shipped from the factory
filled with DOT 3 brake fluid. Check the level before
the engine is first started and every 8 hours or daily,
thereafter.
The brake fluid reservoir is located under the dash.
1. Park the machine on a level surface.
2. The fluid level should be up to the Full line on the
reservoir (Figure 15).

3. If the fluid level is low, clean the area around the
cap, remove the reservoir cap, and fill the reservoir
to the proper level. Do not overfill.
Note: You can remove the hood access to the reservoir
from the front of the machine (Figure 16).

Checking the Pump Belt
Tension
Check the pump belt for wear, cracking, or improper
tension. Check the tension by pressing belt at mid span
between the crankshaft and pump pulleys with 22 lb
(10 kg) of force. A new belt should deflect 0.48 to 0.58
inch (12 to 15 mm) A used belt should deflect 0.55 to
0.65 inch (14 to 16.5 mm). If the deflection is incorrect,
refer to Belt Maintenance for the tensioning procedure.
If correct, continue operation.
Important: Improper belt tension may result in
increased steering effort.
Pre–starting Checks
Safe operation begins before taking the vehicle out for
a day's work. You should check these items each time:
• Check the tire pressure.
Note: These tires are different than car tires, they
require less pressure to minimize turf compaction
and damage.
• Check all fluid levels and add the appropriate
amount of Toro specified fluids, if any are found
to be low.
• Check the brake pedal operation.
• Check to see that the lights are working.
