Engine Cooling System

To ensure proper engine cooling, make sure the grass
screen, cooling fins and other external surfaces of the
engine are kept clean at all times.
IMPORTANT: The engine that powers the ProForce
Debris Blower is air- -cooled. Operating the engine
with dirty or plugged cooling fins or a plugged or
dirty blower housing will result in engine overheat-
ing and damage.
1. Park machine on a level surface. Make sure engine
is OFF. Chock wheels to prevent machine from moving.
2. To prevent unexpected machine operation, discon-
nect the negative battery cable from the battery terminal
(see Battery Service in the Service and Repairs section
of Chapter 4 -- Electrical System). Position discon-
nected negative cable away from the negative battery
terminal.
CAUTION
The engine may be hot. Allow engine to cool be-
fore cleaning the engine cooling fins.
IMPORTANT: Never clean engine with pressurized
water. Water could enter and contaminate the fuel
system.
3. Clean cooling fins on both cylinder heads.
4. Clean grass screen and blower housing of dirt and
debris (Fig. 1).
5. If necessary remove blower housing from engine for
more thorough engine cleaning.
IMPORTANT: Never operate engine without the
blower housing installed. Overheating and engine
damage will result.
6. Make sure blower housing and/or engine cylinder
shrouds are installed to the engine if removed.
7. Connect negative battery cable to negative battery
terminal. Tighten nut that secures battery cable from 10
to 15 ft- -lb (14 to 20 N- -m). Make sure that battery cover
is secured.
