Protocol Acronyms
Listed below and the following pages are the protocol acronyms and
their descriptions:
CED - (Central office Echo Disable) - A 2100 Hz tonal signal approxi-
mately 3 seconds long that indicates that a non voice unit has
been reached. It also disables echo suppression at the tele-
phone company. Echo suppression is activated prior to sending
page data.
CFR - (Confirmation To Receive) - A response from the receiver indi-
cating the initial protocol has been completed and the receiving
terminal is ready to receive the document.
CNG - (Calling Signal) - A 1100Hz repeating tone, half a second on
and 3 seconds off. This signal is issued only when the auto
dialer is used, indicating a fax transmission (This signal is used
when determining the difference between an incoming fax or
voice call).
CSI - (Called Subscriber Identification) - An optional signal from the
receiver containing its identification (fax number).
DCN - (Disconnect Signal) - A command from the transmitter indicat-
ing the call is being terminated.
DCS - (Digital Command Signal) - A set up command issued by the
transmitter identifying itself and transmission characteristics
based on the receivers DIS information.
DIS - (Digital Identification Signal) - Issued by the receiver indicating
its CCITT/ITU standard capabilities such as maximum transmis-
sion speed, resolution and compression scheme along with
other compatibility parameters.
DTC - (Digital Transmit Command) - Issued by the transmitter, so the
transmitter may receive the document (polling).
