This section of the chapter explains how to

install a modem at a DIMENSION workstation. Only
one modem may be installed at each workstation,
and the modem must use a serial interface compati-
ble with the Electronic Industries Association
RS-232C standard.
Most commonly available modems meet this industry
specification; however, if you are in doubt, you
should read your modem owner ' s manual.

parallel interfacing refers to the method of data
transmission used by the modem. Serial modems
transmit data bits sequentially, while parallel
modems transmit data bits simultaneously. If you

Your modem owner's manual may provide you with
