Displaying the Picture in
Black Detail Mode
Black detail mode display function
You can reduce to dull black color by backlight leaking and
precisely assess any parts with low color gradation.
You can decrease the black level up to 40% of the normal

display (100 cd/m
at 100% signal). The parts with high
color gradation (higher than 75 IRE) are clipped by the
dynamic range of the circuit, but a zebra pattern
(selectable) is displayed in the clipped portions.
For details on the zebra pattern display for the clipped
portion, see "Zebra Pattern" (page 61) in the Black Detail
Setting menu of the Display Function menu.
Notes
• The setting is in effect when Gamma (transmission
gamma) of the Matrix/Gamma menu is set to 2.2.
• The contrast is not set in black detail mode.
• The signal is not displayed in black detail mode in the
following cases:
– When Interlace is set to On
– When Black Frame Insertion is set to On
– When H Delay/V Delay is set to On

(page 53) of the Input Configuration menu.
To display the signal in black detail mode
Press the Black Detail Mode button* of the controller or set
Black Detail Mode (page 64) to On in the Function Switch
menu of the Display Function menu.
The OVER RANGE lamp of the front panel is lit in black
detail mode.
* Black Detail Mode is assigned to the controller in the Function
Key menu (page 78) of the Controller menu.
Note
Use the controller with software version 1.3 or higher to
assign Black Detail Mode to the function button of the
controller.

To end the black detail mode
Set the Black Detail Mode button of the controller to off, or
set the Black Detail Mode to Off in the Function Switch
menu of the Display Function menu.
