the top radiator hose

the thermostat
housing
and
remove
the hose

Undo and

two
nuts
and washers that
secure
the
thermostat housing

the
cylinder
head elbow

Carefully

Recover the JOlOt washer
adhering
to
either the
housing
or
cylinder
head elbow

a
screwdriver
carefully
ease
the thermostat from

Test the thermostat for
correct
functIoning by suspending

a

a
saucepan of cold
water
Also
suspend
a
therm
meter
In
the
water
Heat the
water
and
note
the
temperature
at
which the thermostat
begins
to
open
Continue
heating
the
water
until
the
thermostat
IS
fully
open
Then
let
It
cool
down
naturally
The
readings
taken should compare with those given
In
specifications
at
the
beginning
of thiS
Chapter

If the thermostat does
not
fully
open

boiling
water
or
does
not
close
down
as
the
water
cools
then
It
must
be
discarded and
a
new
one
obtained
Should the thermostat be
stuck
open
when
cold
