bolt

remove
the
three bolts and spnng washers
that
secure
the
cover
to
the
maIn
hOUSing

LIft
the
cover
gasket
and
wrthdraw the
sector
shaft

Undo
and
remova
the botu and Iprlng washers that
secure
the steertng
column
cover
to
the
mal
houSIng

The steenng
column
mllly

now
be removed

me care not to
allow
the ball
nut
on
the
worm to
rotate
as
tl
can
damage
the ball
beanng

10 Note that there
are
shIms
located
the
two
gaskets
on
the
cover
plate
Make
sure
that the dum
are
not
damaged dUring
removal
Keep
the shIm
pack together

worm
shaft
may
now
be
removed from the
column
tube

puller

the
upper
beanng
outer cup
from the column tube

Again
uSIng the puller draw off the lower
bearong
outer cup
from the steenng
gearbox
14 Carefully
remove
the sector
shaft 011 seal from
the
steertng
gearbox
15 If
It
IS
consllfered
necessary to
dismantle
the
ball
nut
and
wann
shaft
first
check
for
wear
and
conect
alignment
16 Detach and
remCMl
the
damp
that
IS
fitted to
the
bell
gUIde
tube anti
then
WIthdraw the ball
de tube
from
the ball
nut
17 Tum the nut
upside down and
rotate
the
worm
shaft
In an
osclllatlllg
movement
until
all
36 bell
bearongs
have
been
remOl
ed
from
the
nut
18 Once
all the
ball beaTIngs have been removed the
nut can
be
withdrawn from
the
column

The gearbox
has
now
been
completely dIsmantled
Wash ell
parts and WIpe
dry
WIth
a non
fluffy rag and layout ready for
InspectIon
20 Inspect the steertng shaft
worm
beartng
Inner cone
assemblIes
for SIgns
of
wear
pitting
or corrOSIon
Then Inspect the
outer
tracks

the
ball
nut
and track
