the
crossmember and

rag

the wheel hub

Inspect
the crossmember for SIgnS of damage

Undo

remove the
four
bolts
and spring
washers
that
distortIon
or
cracks at
the
variOUS
bends
ThIS
IS
partIcularly
secure
the brake backplate
to
the knuckle plndle

at
the ends
5 Oetach the backplate and
hang
on a wIre or
string
to save

lifted

the stabll

bar
on a
flat floor and check for dIStortion

Reassembly

road
wheel

Chapter 9 and detach the front fleXIble brake hose
end

screwdnver
ease
off the hub dust cap and then
straIghten the ears
of
the splot
Pin
W thdraw
the
splot
pin and
unscrew
the nut
4 Carefully pull off
the wheel
hub assembly W th thIS the
wheel
beanngs
collar and 011 seal WIll also be removed

Undo and
remove
the
bolts
and spring washers that
secure
the brake
backplate to
the
spindle flange
6 Unoo
and
remove
the
bolts
securing the
knuckle arm to
the
spindle assembly

Undo
and remove
the
king
pin
lock bolt
end nut
8
Carefully remove
the Iottle
air
breather from the
top
of the
king
pin
assembly The plug
must be
removed next

Drill
a
0413 Inch 10 5
mm
dIameter hole
In
the plug and
then
screw
In
a long
If
tappIng
screw
ThIS
WIll
draw
off
the
plug

USing a
dnft of SUitable d
ameter to
the
top of
the
kIng
Pin
carefully drove It
downwards ThIS will
remove
the
lower
plug
before
emergIng
from the
support
11 The stub assembly
may
now be detached
from
Its support
uSIng
a
soft faced
hammer Recover the
thrust
beanngs
and
shIms

Wash all
parts
and
dry
with
a non
fluffy
rag
ready for
inspectIon

nspect the
king pin end
bushes
for
SIgns
of
damage
seIzure
rustIng
or general wear
Should the dearance between
the
king
pin
and bushIng
exceed

pin

bushes
must
be renewed

for SIgnS
of wear or
cracks

must
