Appendix C: Upgrading the RaQ XTR
Installing or removing a hard disk
drive
The RaQ XTR can contain up to four hard disk drives. The drives are mounted on
drive "sleds" that allow them to be easily removed and installed.
Before you replace or add a disk drive to the RaQ XTR, read all of the
following Notes and Warnings .
Warning: Do not swap hard disk drives from one RaQ XTR to
another. Also, do not install a drive, that was previously partitioned
for RAID, in a RaQ XTR as an additional (non-RAIDed) drive.
Note: If possible, replace a defective drive with another drive of the
same model. If the original model of drive is not available, ensure
that the replacement drive has a storage capacity that is equal to or
greater than that of the drive being replaced.
Check the specifications of the replacement drive to verify that the
usable memory (not the rated capacity) is equivalent to the capacity
of the drive being replaced.
If you have to replace a hard disk drive, please notify Cobalt
Networks Technical Support and arrange to return the drive. See the
"Cobalt Technical Support and Service" section for contact
information.
If you add a drive (rather than replace an existing one), the new
drive can be utilized by the RaQ XTR, but cannot be incorporated
into the system's RAID.
Drives can be replaced or added to the RaQ XTR while it is
powered up, but a new drive that was added as additional storage
will not be seen by the system until you reboot the server.
