PREPARATION FOR START-UP OF NEW
AFTER LONG-TERM LAY-UP OR REPAIR
The rules stated in this Section apply to initial powertrain and
engine start-up in the following cases:
new engine
engine that has been out of operation for a long time (for 5
days and longer)
engine after regular maintenance
after change of oil and/or oil filtering elements
engine repair, especially after change or repair of the
turbocharger and other pressure lubricated assembly units
and parts
after major engine repairs
If possible, initial start-up should be conducted in warm
premises. Start-up preparation procedure is as follows:
1. Clean off dust and dirt.
2. Perform a thorough visual examination of the powertrain,
the engine and the units mounted on it. Check for foreign
objects.
3. If repairs or disassembly have been conducted during a
long-term lay-up, carefully examine and check the
assemblies and units which have been repaired or
disassembled.
