Error Messages

The D300 viewfinder and top LCD have a number of
indicators that remind you how the camera is set while you're
shooting. But more important is that these displays show error

Thom Hogan's Complete Guide to the Nikon D300
What it Means
The lens has not been set to
the smallest aperture.
Solution: Set the aperture ring
on the lens to the smallest
aperture (usually f/22).
No lens is attached, or the lens
that is attached doesn't have a
CPU and you haven't set data
for it. Apertures shown will be
indicated in stops from
maximum aperture, not the
actual aperture. Solution: Use
the Non-CPU lens data
selection on the SETUP menu
to enter data for the lens.
Battery is exhausted and needs
recharging. This also appears if
the battery is defective or
cannot be used (i.e. some third
party batteries). Solution:
Charge the battery. If this
doesn't solve the problem,
have the battery serviced or
replaced.
Clock battery was exhausted
and date was lost Solution: Set
date and time. Also, leave fully
charged EN-EL3e in camera for
a couple of days to recharge
clock battery.
