The higher density of the D300 color LCD and the use of the
stripe array makes for a visibly better image on which it's
easier to evaluate sharpness:
The difference is most noticeable when you're zooming in on
images to assess the focus. Even with the side-by-side colors,
the implied pixel pitch of the D300's color LCD is 266 dots
per inch, which is about as high as it gets right now on
displays. On the older display technology, it's often difficult to
see how much acuity is in the image. On the D300's newer
display technology, it's much easier to make that assessment.
The color LCD also allows you to see the image well from
170°, essentially any angle that you can manage to see the
display from.
Finally, note that the color LCD is covered by a plastic BM-8
protector. The LCD has a tempered glass cover over the
