    Before using the Motus, it is essential that you read the “Safety Instructions”, Chapter 2, as well as “Delivery / Preparing the Wheelchair for Use”, Chapter 3.

    I product according to the classification criteria outlined in appendix IX of the guidelines. The declaration of conformity was therefore created by Otto Bock with sole responsibility according to appendix VII of the guidelines.

    Risk of injury as a result of unauthorized use in a vehicle for the disabled. To ensure optimal protection of all passengers in the case of an accident, we recommend that, whenever possible, Motus users transfer to the seats installed in the motor vehicle.
  • Page 8 Danger while driving CAUTION Risk of accident for inexperienced users. Lack of familiarity with the Motus can lead to falls and other dangerous situations. Therefore, familiarize yourself with the new wheelchair by practicing on even, level terrain first. Get to know how the wheelchair reacts when your center of gravity shifts; for example on slopes or inclines or when clearing obstacles such as steps and curbs.
  • Page 9 Danger as a result of incorrect assembly or settings CAUTION Risk of tipping as a result of incorrectly set wheels. Extreme settings (e.g. rear wheels mounted in the most forward position) combined with an unfavorable body posture can cause the wheelchair to tip even on level ground.
  • Page 10 Warnings regarding wheelchair damage NOTICE Damage caused by overload. The maximum load capacity of the Motus adaptive wheelchair is 125 kg or 140 kg when a double crossbrace is employed. NOTICE Damage caused by wear and tear. If the upholstery gets worn or damaged, replace it immediately.

    3 Delivery / Preparing the Wheelchair for Use CAUTION Risk of pinching. When folding or collapsing the wheelchair, only grip the components shown. Your wheelchair is normally delivered fully assembled with the backrest folded and with the rear wheels removed. You only need to perform a few, simple steps to prepare it for use: Attach rear wheels.

    Accident risk. When mounting wheels, be sure the quick-release axle securely locks into the CAUTION quick-release axle housing! The rear wheel must not be removable when the button is not being pressed! The rear wheels have been pre-positioned according to your indications. Risk of tipping.

    4.1 Transfer Transfer into the wheelchair is described below. The Motus is designed for persons who normally use a wheelchair independently, and for this reason we describe an independent transfer. Should you require an attendant, the steps described here can be carried out in the same way, but with attendant support.

    We recommend using a seat cushion at all times. The seat upholstery of the Motus has a loop texture so that seat cushions with a hook texture can be attached with a hook and loop connection. All seat cushions listed on the order form have the required hook texture.

    5.3 Transport Wheels (Fig. 22) With the rear wheels removed, the wheelchair can still be used as a rolling base; this makes it possible to maneuver through narrow passages (e.g. narrow bathroom doorways or airplane aisles).     5.7 Desk Side Panels (Fig. 26) The side panels can be swung away to the rear for transfers. To do this, press the half-moon push buttons and swing the side panel away to the rear. To remove the side panel,pull it upwards. The armrest is also height adjustable.

    5.11 Elevating Footrest (Fig. 30) Allows positioning of the leg at different angles.     All wheelchair users have expectations regarding wheelchair type, accessories, seating and handling. Your Motus manual wheelchair offers many options that allow the wheelchair to be adapted according to your requirements. We recommend consulting with your dealer or therapist to determine which wheelchair settings will work best for you.

    6.3 Setting and Adjusting the Wheel Camber (Fig. 36-38) The rear wheel adapter of the Motus allows for different camber angle settings of the rear wheels (0° and 2.5°). The greater the camber angle of the rear wheels, the more manoeuvrable the wheelchair becomes.

    6.4 Caster Trailing Adjustment (Fig. 39-42) After the rear wheels have been mounted in the appropriate position for you, the caster wheel journal angle must be readjusted. The threaded axle should be as level as possible in relation to the ground to ensure optimal driving behavior of the wheelchair.

    6.5 Adjusting the Wheel Lock (Fig. 43) To change the position of the rear wheels, first loosen the attachment screws of the clamping adapters of the wheel lock and push the wheel lock forward. Then reposition the rear wheels. The wheel lock should then be remounted such that the distance between the tires and wheel lock bolts is a max.

    6.7 Angle Adjustment of the Footplate (Fig. 45) Prior to adjusting the footplate angle, loosen the screw connections as indicated in the figure (Fig. 45, item A). Subsequently tilt the footplate until the desired angle is achieved. Make sure to re-tighten the loosened screw connections. The proper torque is 4.4 ft/lb (6 Nm).     6.10 Adjusting the Height of the Armrest for the Desk Side Panel (Fig. 49) The armrest can be adjusted in height by bringing it into various positions without use of any tools. For this purpose, pull the button in the round opening in the side panel upward (Fig. 49, see arrow) and shift the armrest into the desired position.

    6.12 Installing the Anti-tipper (Fig. 51-53) Mount the receiver tube on the frame in the position as shown in the figure (Fig. 51). Screw the anti-tipper in the uppermost position of the receiver tube as shown in Fig. 52. Adjust the anti‑tipper using the longitudinal adjustment (Fig. 53). By changing the screw connection in the receiver tube the anti‑tipper can be horizontally adjusted.

    6.13 Adapting the Back Upholstery (Fig. 54) You can adjust the back upholstery in sections according to your needs. To do this, remove the back upholstery padding and undo the hook-and-loop fasteners of the straps (Fig. 54). Position the straps as desired, then reattach them with the hook-and-loop fasteners and reapply the back upholstery padding.

    6.15 Push Handles, Height-adjustable (Fig. 56) To adjust the height of the push handles, use the adjustable clamping lever to loosen the clamping screws, then place the handles in the desired position.     We also recommend that you have the wheelchair serviced every 12 months by your Otto Bock authorized dealer. The following table lists functions which the user must check at the indicated intervals.

    7.2 Cleaning and Disinfection Clean the padding and upholstery with warm water and a gentle hand soap. Remove spots with a sponge or a soft brush. Rinse with clear water and let the components dry. Do not use any aggressive cleansing agents, solvents, or hard brushes etc. INFORMATION No wet-cleaning.
