Step 5.
From a voice terminal, try to make an outside call on the line with trou-
ble.
IF
The trouble is no longer present,
The trouble is still present,
To use the outside line with trouble, bypass the line bridging adapter and

modular extension cord by following the instructions in Step 2 (A and B)
above. Read the section on Maintenance Exchange Procedures at the end
of this manual to get a new line bridging adapter.
Step 7.
See if you have a standard telephone with a modular plug.
Note: You may be using a standard telephone with a modular cord/plug
as a power failure transfer telephone. The power failure transfer
telephone is the telephone connected to the Type III Cartridge in
the control unit. The power failure transfer telephone can be
used for this test, but a Model 820 voice terminal cannot.

You have a standard modular tele-
phone,
You do not have a standard modu-
lar telephone,
Step 8.
Following Steps A and B below, connect the standard modular telephone
to the modular line cord with the number of an outside line on which the
trouble appears.
A. Unplug the cord of the standard modular telephone (or power failure
transfer telephone [PFTT]) from the base of the telephone (see Fig-
ure 26).
Trouble on More Than One Voice Terminal
Trouble found. It is your auxili-
ary device. Do not reconnect the
device until the trouble has been
corrected.
Trouble found. It is the line
bridging adapter or the modular
cord that extends to the auxiliary
device.
Go on to Step 6.
