Firmware Upgrade Chip Installation
In some cases the VSC 900/900D's firmware may require replacement with an
updated version. There is one user-replaceable firmware chip: U1. The number
is printed on the circuit board. We recommend that you send the unit to Extron
for service and updates.
Follow these steps to replace firmware in the VSC.
1.
Disconnect the AC power cord from the VSC to remove power from the unit.
Next, remove the input/output cables.
2.
Remove the VSC from the rack or furniture.
3.
Remove the cover of the VSC (the top half of the enclosure) by removing the
screws, then lifting the cover straight up.

Locate the U1 firmware chip to be replaced on the circuit board, as shown
in the following illustration.
Changes to firmware must be performed by authorized service personnel
only.
To prevent electric shock, always unplug the VSC scan converter from
the AC power source before opening the enclosure.

Do not touch any switches or other electronic components inside the
scaler. Doing so could damage the scan converter. Electrostatic
discharge (ESD) can damage IC chips even though you cannot feel it.
You must be electrically grounded before proceeding with firmware
replacement. A grounding wrist strap is recommended.
