tion mode. Self-diagnosis
is performed as soon as the
brake levers are in their fully
released positions for the first
time. During this period, nei-
ther the ABS function nor the
power braking assistance is
available.
When you start the en-
gine, wait until the ABS
self-diagnosis has been
performed.
Switch on ignition.
Pre-ride check is
performed. (

ABS self-diagnosis is per-
formed. (

Press starter button 1.
At extremely low tem-
peratures it may be nec-
essary to operate the throt-
tle twist grip during starting.
At ambient temperatures be-
low 32 °F (0 °C), actuate the
clutch after switching on the
ignition.
The start attempt is au-
tomatically interrupted
if battery voltage is too low.
Recharge the battery before
you start the engine, or use
jump leads and a donor bat-
tery to start.
The engine starts.
Consult the troubleshooting
chart if the engine refuses
to start. (

Pre-ride check
After the ignition is switched
on, the instrument cluster car-
ries out the so-called "Pre-
Ride Check" of the general
warning lamp and a few warn-
ing symbols. In the process,
the warning lamp first lights
up red and then yellow to test
its function. If the engine is
started during the test, the
test is canceled.
