  • Page 2 * For operation of the V-Mixer, download V-Mixer’s reference document “R-1000 Remote Control Reference” from the Roland website below. http://www.rolandsystemsgroup.net/ If the software version of your V-Mixer unit is earlier than below, it is not possible to remotely control the R-1000. Confirm the software version of your V-Mixer unit prior to connecting the R-1000.

Recording Output from the V-Mixer on the R-1000 You can record the output of your V-Mixer by connecting the R-1000 to the REAC SPLIT jack of your V-Mixer. In this scenario you will also need to connect the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT cables as shown.
  • Page 4 Track settings Open the recording patchbay of the R-1000 from the V-Mixer. Assign input 1 through 40 coming in from REAC port A on the R- 1000 to recording tracks 1 through 40. In this configuration, the R-1000 will be recording the 40 sources that are assigned in the V- Mixer's REAC A Output patchbay.
  • Page 5 FOH (Front of House) REAC Master Device The sampling rate of your R-1000 recording project must match the sampling rate of your V-Mixer. If the sampling rates are not matched, your recording will not work properly. If you have set the R-1000's clock source to [WORD CLOCK], the sampling frequency of the R-1000 and the V-Mixer must match the sampling...

SOUNDCHECK * If [WORD CLOCK] or [VIDEO SYNC] is selected as clock source of the R-1000, set the REAC SETUP value to [EXT. CLOCK with V-MIXER]. * For details about the various parameters, refer to "Menu Operations and Menu List" in the R-1000 Owner's Manual.
  • Page 7 You can connect the R-1000 inline between your digital snake units and your V-Mixer to record and play back audio. • Recording The R-1000 records audio from the inputs of the digital snake units. The audio channels from the digital snake units will also be throughput to the V-Mixer's A and B ports.
  • Page 8 • CONTROL TARGET REAC A * If [EXT. CLOCK with V-MIXER] is selected as the REAC SETUP value of the R-1000, set the REAC SETUP value of the V-Mixer to [FOH A (External Clock)]. * For details about the various parameters, refer to the V-Mixer's Owner's Manual.
  • Page 9 Open the R-1000 patchbay and assign channels/tracks as shown below. In this scenario, we'll be patching inputs from the digital snake units (connected to REAC C and D) to record directly from them. We'll be patching the R-1000 track outputs to the V-Mixer (REAC A and B).
  • Page 10 In this scenario, the V-Mixer will maintain control over the preamps of the digital snake units. When playing back a recorded R- 1000 project, the V-Mixer preamp gain control will adjust the playback volume of the various R-1000 tracks. Signal flow - audio signal and control signal These diagrams show audio signal flow and control data flow in the R-1000 during record and playback.
  • Page 11 During playback of the R-1000, the V-Mixer will control the digital snake preamp that is patched to the input of the playback track. For example, if R-1000 track 1 has an input patch of REAC C In2 and an ouput patch of REAC A Out1, the V-Mixer channel assigned to REAC A 1 will control the preamp of your REAC C digital snake unit input number 2.

Sync Operation with External Devices Synchronizing multiple R-1000 units You can use a word clock generator to sync two R-1000 units together. When two units are synchronized as below, recording up to 96 channels is possible. * Maximum channel count at 44.1 or 48kHz is 96. Maximum channel count at 96kHz is 48.

Sync Operation with External Devices Set recording tracks Assign channels/tracks as below. • Assign input 1-32 (S-4000S-3208) of REAC A port to track 1-32. • Assign input 1-16 (S-1608) of REAC B port to track 33-48. fig.input-patchbay-96ch.eps Start/Stop recording Operate the MMC/MTC master unit to start/stop recording. The MMC/MTC slave unit will follow the operations of the master unit.
