SHIMMING
SHIM SELECTION
(EXCEPT FOR USA AND CANADA)
Pinion gear shim
NOTE:
Find pinion gear shim thickness (T3) by
selecting shims until the specified measure-
ment is obtained with the special tool.
1. Install:
Pinion height gauge
Drive shaft
Bearing
Pinion height gauge:
90890-06702
NOTE:
Fix the pinion height gauge to the drive
shaft so that the shaft is at the center of
the hole.
Tighten the wing nuts 1/4 turn after con-
tacting the fixing plate.
2. Install:
Pinion
Pinion nut
Pinion nut:
75 Nm (7.5 m • kg, 54 ft • lb)
3. Measure:
Measurement (M)
Digital caliper:
90890-06704
NOTE:
Measure the fit between the pinion height
gauge and lower surface of the pinion.
Perform the same measurement at three
points on the pinion.
4. Calculate:
Pinion gear shim thickness (T3)
Pinion gear shim thickness (T3) =
M – 11.30 mm + P/100
