IMPORTANT NOTE: MIDI "running status" is not supported, all MIDI commands must
be prefixed with their command byte. Running status is a way of shortening midi
messages sent consecutively; for instance with running status one could define two
note-on events on channel 1 as follows: $90, $40, $7F, $50, $7F rather than the way it
actually has to be done in the MLD, which is $90, $40, $7F, $90, $50, $7F.
