General Description

1 1 ) Each connector n u m ber shown in the wiring diagram
corresponds to that in Ihe wiring harness. The location
each connector in the actual veh icle IS determined by
reading the first character of the connector (for example,
a " F" for F8, "i" for i 1 6, etc.) and the type of wiring har
ness.
The first character of each con nector n u mber refers to the
area or system of the vehicle, as ind icated in table below.

The most important p urpose of diagnostiCS IS to determine
which part is malfu nctioning q U i ckly, to save time and
labor.
A: IDENTIFICATION OF TROUBLE SYMPTOM
Determine what the problem is based on the symptom.
B: PROBABLE CAUSE OF T R O U B LE
Look at the wiring diagram and check the system's circuit.
Then check the swilch, relay, fuse, ground, etc.
C: LOCATION AND REPAIR OF TROUBLE
1 ) Using the diag nostics narrow down the causes.
2) If necessary, use a voltmeter, ohmmeler, etc.
3) Before replacing certa in component parts (switch,
relay, etc.), check the power supply, ground, for open Wir
ing harness, poor connector�, etc. If no problems are
encou ntered, check the component parts.
D: CONFIR MATION OF SYSTEM OPERATION
After repa iring, ensure that the syslem operates properly.
