PERIODIC CHECKS AND ADJUSTMENTS

INTRODUCTION

This chapter includes all information necessary to perform recommended checks and adjustments.
If followed, these preventive maintenance procedures will ensure more reliable vehicle operation, a
longer service life and reduce the need for costly overhaul work. This information applies to vehicles
already in service as well as to new vehicles that are being prepared for sale. All service technicians
should be familiar with this entire chapter.

PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION INTERVALS

• Clean or replace if necessary.

2 Air filter element
• Replace if necessary.
• Check idle speed.
3 * Carburetor
• Adjust if necessary.
• Check fuel hose and vacuum hose for cracks or damage.
4 * Fuel line
• Replace if necessary.
• Check oil leakage.
• Correct if necessary.
5 * Final gear oil
• Replace every 8,000 mi (12,000 km) or 24 months.
(Ride scooter a few minutes before draining.)
• Check operation.
6 * Autolube pump • Correct if necessary
• Bleed.
• Check operation.
7 Brakes
• Adjust if necessary.
• Check damage/runout.
8 * Wheels
• Replace if necessary.
• Check bearing assembly for looseness/damage.
9 * Wheel bearings
• Replace if damaged.
• Check bearing assembly for looseness.
10 * Steering bearing • Correct if necessary.
• Moderately repack every 8,000 mi (12,000 km) or 24 months.**
Rear shock • Check operation/oil leakage.
