Kindle Touch For Dummies, Portable Edition
separately. The Kindle Touch is compatible with other
chargers, such as the one used for the iPhone; it's also
compatible with the plug adapter that came with earlier
generation Kindles (Kindle 2 and Kindle Keyboard).
The initial charging of the Kindle Touch takes about 4 hours.
After that, charging via USB and computer takes about 3
hours. Charging with the Kindle plugged into an electrical
socket is usually shorter, about 1 to 2 hours.
The battery charge meter is in the upper-right corner of the
Home screen. We recommend recharging the battery when it
has about a quarter of a charge remaining. You don't need to
"top off" the battery on a daily or weekly basis.
You can read and use your Kindle Touch while it charges.
When the Kindle Touch is plugged into an electrical socket,
the display doesn't change. However, when the Kindle Touch
is plugged into the USB on the computer, you see the following
message:
If you want to read on your Kindle Touch while it's connected
to your computer, eject the device via the operating system
but leave it physically connected (or plugged in) to the USB
port. To eject your Kindle Touch:
If you want to read or shop on your Kindle
while continuing to charge over USB, please
keep the USB cable attached, but eject your
Kindle from your computer.
✓ In Windows 7, Vista, and Windows XP: Either left- or

icon from the desktop to the trash can, or choose File
