B. Inspection
Specifications should be changed as follows:
Rear shock absorber tightening torque:
Upper
3.0 m-kg (21.5 ft-lb)
Lower
3.9 m-kg (28.0 ft-lb)

6-1. STARTER
A. Armature

Check the outer surface of the com-
mutator. If it's surface is dirty, clean
with No. 600 grit sand paper.

mutator segments should be 0.7 mm
(0.028 in) below the segment level. If
not, scrape to proper limits with ap-
propriately shaped tool. (A hack saw
blade can be ground to fit.)

Check the armature and field coil for
shorting and insulation. Replace arma-
ture as required.

6-5. LIGHTING AND SIGNAL SYSTEMS
B. Reserve lighting system
1. Description:
The reserve lighting system has two
functions: (1) It notifies the rider that
one of the headlight filaments is in-
operative, and (2) it switches current
from the inoperative filament to the
remaining functional filament.
The system is connected to the headlight
circuit only. The reserve lighting system
unit is located under the fuel tank.
NOTE:
This model has been equipped with a safety
relay so that the headlight comes on auto-
matically when the engine is started even
with the headlight switch "OFF".
