Cleaning the Printer

Cleaning the Cabinet

The external cabinet materials and finish are durable and resistant to these items:
There is no scheduled maintenance required for the 7156.
Clean the cabinet as needed to remove dust and finger marks. Use any household cleaner
designed for plastics, but test it first on a small unseen area. If the receipt bucket is dirty,
wipe it with a clean, damp cloth.

Cleaning the Thermal Printhead

Caution: Do not spray or try to clean the thermal printhead or the inside of the printer
with any kind of cleaner or soap as this may damage the thermal printhead and electronics.
If the thermal printhead appears dirty, wipe it with cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol.
Caution: Do not use the alcohol to clean other parts of the printer. Damage will occur.
If spotty or light printing problems persist after the thermal printhead has been cleaned,
see "Chapter 4: Troubleshooting" for more information.
Note: The thermal printhead does not normally require cleaning if the recommended
paper grades are used. If non-recommended paper has been used for an extended period
of time, cleaning the printhead with rubbing alcohol will not be of much benefit. See
"Appendix D: Ordering Paper and Supplies" for recommended paper.
If this is the case, the printhead will need to be changed. See "Removing the Printhead" in
"Disassembling and Reassembling the Printer" later in this book for instructions on
replacing the printhead.
