heat pump unit utilizing reciprocating, semi-hermetic
compressor(s) for cooling duty and electric resistance coils
for heating duty. Unit shall discharge supply air vertically or
horizontally (with horizontal supply/return adapter assembly
or roof curb) as shown on contract drawings.
B. QUALITY ASSURANCE
1. Unit shall be rated in accordance with ARI Standards
210/240 or 360 and 270. Designed in accordance with UL
Standard 1995. Units shall be Energy Star qualified.
2. Unit shall be designed to conform to ASHRAE 15, latest
revision.
3. Unit shall be UL-tested and certified in accordance with
ANSI Z21.47 Standards and UL-listed and certified under
Canadian standards as a total package for safety
requirements.
4. Roof curb shall be designed to conform to NRCA
Standards.

flame
generation.
6. Unit
casing
shall
500-hour salt spray exposure per ASTM B117 (scribed
specimen).
7. Unit shall be designed in accordance with ISO 9001:2000,
and shall be manufactured in a facility registered to ISO
9001:2000.
8. Each unit shall be subjected to a completely automated run
testing
on
the
assembly
factory-supplied printout indicating tested pressures,
amperages, data, and inspectors; providing certification of
the unit status at the time of manufacture.
C. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
Unit shall be stored and handled per manufacturer's
recommendations.

b. Indoor fan compartment interior cabinet surfaces shall be
insulated with a minimum
flexible fiberglass insulation, neoprene coated on the air
side. Aluminum foil-faced fiberglass insulation shall be
used in the gas heat compartment.
c. Cabinet panels shall be easily removable for servicing.
d. Holes shall be provided in the base rails for rigging
shackles to facilitate maneuvering and overhead rigging.
e. Unit shall have a factory-installed, sloped, condensate
drain pan made of a non-corrosive material, providing a
minimum
and horizontal drains, and shall comply with ASHRAE
Standard 62.
f. Unit shall have a factory-installed filter access panel to
provide filter access with toolless removal.
g. Unit shall have standard thru-the-bottom gas and power
connection capability (accessory kit is required).
3. Fans:
a. Indoor Fan:
(1.) Fan shall be belt driven with an adjustable-pitch
motor pulley. The standard fan drive shall have a
factory-installed low-medium static pressure fan
drive. The alternate fan drive option shall have a
factory-installed high-static pressure fan drive.
(2.) Fan wheel shall be double-inlet type with
forward-curved blades.
(3.) Bearings shall be sealed, permanently
ball-bearing type for longer life and lower
maintenance.
(4.) Bearings shall be pillow block type (016 only).
b. Indoor fan shall be made from steel with a
corrosion-resistant finish and shall be dynamically
balanced.
c. Outdoor fan shall be of the direct-driven (with totally
enclosed motors) propeller type and shall discharge air
vertically.
d. Outdoor fan shall have aluminum blades riveted to
corrosion-resistant steel spiders and shall be dynamically
balanced.
4. Compressor(s):
a. Reciprocating
factory-installed crankcase heaters.

spring mounted for vibration isolation.
a
c. On independent circuits (016).
d. The size 014 unit semi-hermetic compressor shall be
equipped with an electric unloader for capacity control.
5. Coils:
a. Standard indoor and outdoor coils shall have copper or
aluminum plate fins mechanically bonded to seamless
internally grooved copper tubes with all joints brazed.
b. Coils shall be leak tested at 150 psig (1034 kPa) and
pressure tested at 450 psig (3103 kPa).
c. Coils:
(1.) Copper-fin coils shall be constructed of copper fins
mechanically bonded to copper tubes and copper
tube sheets. Galvanized steel tube sheets shall not be
acceptable. A polymer strip shall prevent coil
assembly from contacting the sheet metal coil pan to
minimize potential for galvanic corrosion between
