Battery-Backed Power Supply
1.1 Introduction
1.2 Operating
Instructions
The Isco Battery-Backed Power Supply combines a regulated 12
VDC, 5 Amp power supply with a 1.2 Ampere-hour nickel
cadmium battery. The same physical size as a standard Isco
battery or power pack, the Battery-Backed Power Supply pro-
vides both operating and backup power for an Isco sampler or
flow meter, and connects to the AC outlet. A short cable with a
two-pin M/S connector attaches to the flow meter or sampler. The
unit is listed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL). The purpose of
this power supply is to provide an uninterruptible power source
for installations where continuous operation is critical during
relatively short periods of AC power failure. When power is
restored, an internal charger recharges the batteries.
Note
Use the Battery-Backed Power Supply only as an AC Power
Pack with short-term battery backup. It is not intended as a
substitute for an Isco Nickel-Cadmium Battery. Due to space
limitations, the battery inside has only one fourth of the capac-
ity of the standard Nickel-Cadmium Battery.
A battery can present a risk of electric shock or burn from high
short-circuit current. Observe proper precautions.
Note
Proper disposal of batteries is required. Refer to your local
codes for disposal requirements.
Attach the Battery-Backed Power Supply to the flow meter or
sampler in the same manner as a standard battery or power
pack. Refer to the sampler or flow meter instruction manual to
see how power supplies are connected. Set the unit in place and
pull the rubber catches through the metal draw latches on each
end of the case to secure the mounting. Plug the line cord into an
AC outlet. Do not use a switched outlet. Avoid using outlets on
heavily-loaded circuits. Avoid using extension cords. Check the
outlet to see if it is a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter)
outlet, or is attached to a circuit controlled by a GFCI periodi-
cally to make sure it has not tripped, as this will cause the
battery to run down in a day or so, depending on the instrument
powered. Attach the shorter cord to the instrument.
Do not short the power supply by "sparking" the output with
wires or tools to test its operation. Doing so will cause perma-
nent internal failure.
