Removal and Replacement Procedures
Hot-Plug Fans
To remove a hot-plug fan:
1. Extend the server from the rack. Refer to "Extending the Server from the Rack" i n this
chapter.
2. Open the rear access panel. Refer to "Op ening and Removing the Rear Access Panel" in
this chapter.
3. Identify the failed fan by locating the fan with the amber LED.
4. Pull the tabs on the top of the fan (1).
5. Remove the fan from the server (2).

CAUTION: Do not operate the server for extended periods without the access
panel installed. Operating the server without the access panel results in
improper airflow that can lead to thermal damage.
Reverse steps 1 through 5 to replace a hot-plug fan.
