!
When no document is loaded, press the Rcv.Mode/Contrast button until AUTO, FAX,
or TEL displays. If you are going to use the answering machine, we recommend
setting the Receive mode to AUTO.
NOTE:
If you want to use Distinctive Ring service from your phone company, set it up
and select it using the Rcv.Mode/Contrast button before turning on the answering
"Distinctive ring (DRPD)"
machine. See
AUTO
mode
on page 30.
In Ready mode, AU appears in the right hand corner of the
display.
When a call comes in, the machine answers it. If a fax is being
sent, the device receives the fax. If the HP Fax does not sense a fax
signal, it will ring in a different tone to tell you it may be a regular
telephone call. If you do not pick up the handset it will again
attempt to receive the fax after several more rings. If a greeting has
been recorded the HP 1050 Fax will turn on the answering
machine and attempt to record a message.
If you want to change the number of rings before it answers, see
Set rings to answer
on page 27.
