ENGINE ADJUSTMENTS
NOTE:
WESTERBEKE recommends that the following engine adjust-
ments be performed by a competent engine mechanic. The information _
below is provided to assist the mechanic.
~
-GLOW PLUGS
OIL PRESSURE
The engine's oil pressure, is constantly monitored by ,the
control pane\. The red light will illuminate and the generator
will shutdown if the oil pressure falls below 5 psi. Do not
restart the generator without checking the oil and finding the
problem.
NOTE: A
newly started, cold engine can have an oil pressure
reading upwards of 60 psi. A warmed engine can have an oil
pressure reading as low as 35 psi. These readings will vary
depending upon the te"1perature of the engine and the load
placed on the generator.
LOW OIL PRESSURE
The specified safe minimum oil pressure is 4.3 - 1.4 psi
(0.3 - 0.1 kg/em'). An oil pressure of 5 psi Will shut the .'.
engine down. A gniduallossof oil pressure usually indicates
worn bearings. For additional iufonnation on low oil pressure
Fe)tdings, see the ENGINE TROUBLESHOOTING chart.
TESTING OIL PRESSURE
To test oil pressure, remove the oil gallery "T" plug and
install a mechanical oil pressure gauge in its place. After
wanning up theeirgine, read .the oil pressure gauge.

SIDE Oil FILL
To inspect the plug, remove the electrical tenninal
connections, then unscrew or unc\amp each plug from the
cylinder head. Thoroughly clean each plug's tip and thre""s
with a soft brush and cleaning solution to remove all the
carbon and oil deposits. While cleaning, examine the tip
for wear and'burn er.osion; if it has eroded too much, replace
the plug.
An accurate way to test glow plugs is with an ohmmeter.
. Touch one prod to the glo\" plug's wire connection, and the
other to the body of the glow plug, as shown. A good glow
plug will have a 0.4 - 0.6 ohm resistance. This method can be
used with the plug in or out of theengine. You can also use a
multimeter to test the power drain (5 - 6 amps per plug).

WARNING:
These glow plugs will become very
hot to the touch. Be careful not toburD your fingers
when testing the plug.

circuit. When reinstalling the glow plugs, use anti-seize
compound on the threads.
