DIGITAL CONTROL BOX
FREQUENCY FAULT
Frequency is displayed on the LCD display screen while the
engine is running in ·RPMand frequency (hertz).
The ECD is receiving a low AC voltage signal and hertz
signal from the MPD which is positioned on the bellhousing
over the flywheel ring gear teeth. The ECD interprets this
signal as both RPM and hertz.
Should this signal vary approximately 2% eit\ler up or down,
a frequency fault shut down will occur, initiated by the ECD.
The red failure LED on the display panel will illuminate, the
frequency LED will turn from green to amber and the LCD
display screen will show the fault text "overspeed".
NOTE:
If
the unit shuts down for an underspeed condition, the
same fault "overspeed" will show on the screen but the
frequency LED will BUNK.
. WHEN CHANGING THE GENERATORS
. FREQUENCY (50160 HZ) SWITCH #1
ON THE CONTROL PANEL ECU
BOARD MUST BE SWITCHED:
.ON FOR 50 HZ AND OFF FOR
60
HZ.

GENERATOR FREQUENCY. ADJUSTMENT (HERTZ)
CAUTION: When changing the generator frequency setting on
the. ECU, tum off the 20 amp DC circuit breaker on the control
box. Tum it back on after the setting has been changed
NOTE:
If
the unit shuts down for an underspeed condition, the
same fault "overspeed" will show on the screen but th.e
frequency LED will BUNK.
1. Turn the DC breaker on lhe control panel to lh.-OFF
.position.
2. Open the cover of the control box and view the ECD
(Elec.tronic Control Unit).
3. Locate th"·#1 dipswitch on the ECD and move it to the
position that corresponds to the Hertz operation desired).
See the illustration below showing the ECU in the
control box.
4. Replace
the
control box cov.er, tum the DC breaker ON
and start the unit. Monitor the frequency that the
engine/generator is operating is operating at ihe COlTect
frequency.
.
DISPLAY PANEL
NOTE: DURING OPERATION THE COLOR
OF THE LCD DISPLAY MAY VARY.
CAUSED BY HEAT. THIS IS NORMAL
AND NO CAUSE FOR CONCERN.
CAUTION (WESTERLINK
or
NMEA-200D):
The electronic components in rhe Digital Diesels draw a very small amount of amperage (milli·amps)frQm the
generator's starling battery when rhe.,unir is in
Q.
static Slate. This maybe as much as 50 milli·amps for the system
EeU
and 50 milli·ampsfor each displ.ay.
This can be as much as 72 amp-hours in a monrhs time with no generator use. It
js
not necessary to' be concerned with this slight amperage draw during
normal tleasollal use. However,
if
the generator set is not to be used for a number ofmomhs, such as willter storage, it is best to disconnect the DC power
to the generator with a NMEt\.200q ,Iystem or shllt off the DC breaker
~n
the generator's control box for a WESTERL/NK system.
.
NOTE: Keep
ilJ
mind that the Westerbeke gellerator maybe the DC power supplyJor the vessel)' N1v1EA·2000 network.
