INSTALLATION CHECKS General Since the crafts in which Westerbeke generators are installed vary in design, installation procedures will vary according to your craft's specific design. The intent of this section is not to advise boatyards or installers on procedures al ready well..cJevel oped and well-understood. However, the owner/operator must realize there are details of the installation which require periodic checks to ensure the best operating conditions for the equipment and safe operating conditions for the personnel on board.

COOUNG SYSTEM Description Westerbeke marine gasoline engines are designed and equipped for fresh water cooling. Heat produced in the engine by combustion and friction is transferred to the fresh water which circulates throughout the engine. This circulating fresh water cools the engine block and its internal moving parts. The heat is transferred extemallyfrom the fresh water to raw water by means of a heat exchanger, similar in function to an automotive radiator.

F (50 C) lower than the actual atmospheric temperature expected. B. Filling the Fresh Water System A coolant recovery tank kit:, PN is supplied with each Westerbeke gasoline generator. The purpose 0249n, of this recovery tank is to allow for engine coolant expansion and contraction, during engine operation, without the loss of coolant and without introducing air into the cooling system.
Page 50
The thermostat used is simply a choke device that remains closed causing the coolant mixture in the engine block to rise in temperature. This temperature rise the thermostat causing to open; thus, allowing effects coolant mixture to circulate through the cooling system. Westerbeke Generators...
