Facing Requirements

The combustible area above the facing must not protrude more than 3/4" from the facing. If it
does, it is considered a mantel and must meet the mantel requirements listed in this manual.

Note: if using a brick hearth, the fireplace will need to be raised to accommodate the 1-1/2Ó gap betwen the
face and the base of the fireplace. For 2-1/2Ó thick brick this works out to approximately 1-1/8Ó.
